Welcome to the Silat Academy of Martial Science (a VDT Academy) of Walnut Creek, CA website.  This site serves as a means for the Walnut Creek Area tjabang students to collaborate, obtain class information, and to update their notes about Pentjak Silat, specifically the system of Poekoelan Pentjak Silat Sera (or Serak).  Serak is an Indonesian martial arts system developed by our founder Pak Sera on the island of Java and brought to the United States in the 1960's by the deThouars family, primarily the VDT Academy's owner and leader Maha Guru Victor de Thouars.  There is brief, introductory information available about the system of Serak on this site, but the best way to obtain more detailed information and to see Serak in action is to participate in one of our classes.  The Silat Academy of Martial Science is not a closed organization, but the system of Serak is fairly new to the general public; it is a vast system and any tidbit of information posted here would not do it justice.

The Walnut Creek tjabang is conveniently close to locales such as Concord, Martinez, Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek, Oakland, Lafayette, San Ramon and Richmond.  The teacher (or guru) of this tjabang, is Guru Ray Graham who has been an active practitioner in the Indonesian arts for a total of 9 years. The school consists of a dedicated space but the number of active students at a time is currently limited, due to available space but classes the size of 6 people is comfortable.
